Lampard joined from West Ham United in 2001 and developed into Chelsea's record goalscorer despite playing primarily in midfield. The combination of availability, late runs and set-piece responsibility accumulated across several managerial eras.
He was central to the consecutive league titles of 2004-05 and 2005-06, then remained influential through domestic cups and European campaigns. His scoring lead in 2004-05 helps connect an outstanding defensive team to its attacking output.
